About this launch
Transit 4A was a US Navy navigation satellite and the first spacecraft to carry a radioisotope generator (SNAP-3). It was launched with the University of Iowa's Injun 1 radiation-belt satellite and the Naval Research Laboratory's Solrad 3, which measured solar X-rays and covertly carried the GRAB 2 electronic-intelligence payload; Injun 1 and Solrad 3 failed to separate from each other.
