About this launch

CryoSat-2 is a European Space Agency Earth Explorer satellite that measures the thickness of polar sea ice and the elevation of ice sheets with a radar altimeter from a 717 km orbit. It replaced the original CryoSat, lost in a 2005 launch failure.
