SUMMARY:Thor DM-21 Ablestar | Transit 3B & LOFTI-1
DESCRIPTION:Transit 3B was a US Navy prototype navigation satellite launche
d together with the Naval Research Laboratory's LOFTI-1\, which tested ver
y-low-frequency radio propagation through the ionosphere for submarine com
munication. The Ablestar stage placed them in a more eccentric orbit than
planned and they failed to separate from it\, so both reentered within wee
 ks.
