DESCRIPTION:Explorer 10 was a NASA magnetometer and plasma probe sent into 
 a highly elliptical orbit reaching about 180\,000 km to study the magnetos
 phere and cislunar space. It operated for about 52 hours on batteries and 
 was the first satellite to measure the shock wave from a solar flare.
